Spring 2006

There's Bob and his new Arabian stallion, and Forrest
with our new lovely brood mare, both from the Jack Tone
Ranch. No doubt the highlight of our Spring has been our trip to
California, returning with our three new incredible horses, and now
spending the time to teach them all about their new life in the
mountains. Needless to say, we're learning as much as they are.
And as you can imagine, they seem to be loving it!
Winter 2005/2006

Winter has made it to Lost Trail Ranch, and we couldn't
be happier! Please see our new "Winter!" page for a little bit of
information about what we're offering this coming winter, and don't
forget to take a look at our "Winter Activities" page under "Outfitting"
for additional information about snow shoeing, cross country skiing and
snow mobiling here at Lost Trail Ranch. Come join us here this
winter!
Autumn 2005
The aspen leaves are just starting their show of autumn
color, and we've been so lucky to have late season rains to keep the
mountains green and lush, and the rivers running full. From the
cabins front porches, our guests are just starting to enjoy the sounds
of the elk bugling!
Summer 2005

The cabins are all filled and the sounds of laughter and
contented voices are all we've been hearing over the rustle of the aspen
leaves. Days have been full of riding, exploring new territory,
sharing old trails, meeting new friends.
June 2005

Yesterday, the aspen began to unfold their leaves of
green and the mountain has started to lighten up. The rivers and
creeks are running brown and the reservoir is at a healthy high level.
The elk are returning, crossing our pasture each morning, and grazing in
the parks under Pole mountain as the sun sets higher and later each day
above Indian Ridge.

In this changing season from Winter to Spring, we find ourselves often
inside looking out, as we complete renovations to the cabins and
paperwork plans for the upcoming summer season. We enjoy feeling
the spring winds as we open the front door, or looking from the kitchen
table to observe the family of coyotes that also call this ranch "home,"
and witnessing the first of the elk tracks as we enjoy our afternoon
break, snowshoeing in the heat of the day!
March 10, 2005

We have been honored to share this special season of snow with some
wonderful guests, and look forward to their returned visits.
This winter has provided us with more snow than our mountain has seen in
years, and it feels like this is how it should be! In this
changing season from Winter to Spring, we find ourselves often inside
looking out, as we complete renovations to the cabins and paperwork
plans for the upcoming summer season. We enjoy feeling the spring
winds as we open the front door, or looking from the kitchen table to
observe the family of coyotes that also call this ranch "home," and

SNOW! Lots of it! And it seems to keep on coming this
year. It's so beautiful... Who would have guessed we'd be busy in
the winter? And they think we just catch our breaths (remember,
that's NEVER easy at 10,000 feet). We were so lucky to share a
safe, sound and so much fun holiday season. Yes, that's Floyd &
Judie on the right. See, they don't just ride horses!
Autumn 2004

Well, we're finally catching our breath after our busiest September
ever. Rode over 500 miles (horseback) this summer. Finally,
we have time to enjoy settling into a peaceful
autumn season - in high expectations of a terrific winter! Now is
the time for us to catch up and stock up...Peter
(the goat) found a new home on a family farm in the San Luis Valley.
We met some terrific hunters up this way, and were able to pack their
game after their successful hunts. There's been a few light snow storms, enough to keep the top
of the mountains white while the Aspen turned gold. Now, the elk
are passing through, bugling in the early evening just across the river,
and the coyotes yip to each other as the moon comes up. Just like
last October, we're waiting for the weather to turn, because in the
meanwhile, it's so beautiful out we just can't stay in doors to work!
Summer 2004

What a wonderful summer! Thank you all for sharing your
vacation with us here at Lost Trail Ranch, and for reminding us how
incredible this place is, and how lucky we are to have it and to share
it with you all. That's what it's about for us, so once again, we
thank you for making it all possible and worthwhile. We look
forward to seeing you next summer, but sure hope you'll find a minute to
keep in touch with us over the winter!
Winter 2003/2004

As
of our January update, there's about three feet of snow outside.
It's a beautiful winter, with sunny days reaching about 40 degrees, and
nights averaging around zero. Plenty of snow for our Guests to
enjoy snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling right from
the front door of each cabin! We're keeping some of our favorite
trails groomed, but there are still miles of open, untouched powder just
waiting to be explored.
Autumn 2003 at Lost Trail Ranch

Bob and
Gin were married here at the Ranch on September 6th, with about 150
family and friends here to share the special event. The honeymoon
was postponed due to a big snow storm two days later! That's a
picture of Forrest skiing with the dogs, and the Aspen trees bending in
the weight of the heavy snow. Well, living here year 'round at the
Ranch, who needs a honeymoon?
Summer 2003 at Lost Trail Ranch

Summer
brought us interesting surprises - Our pet goat and pig befriended a
bear cub! And our garden produced an abundance of gourmet lettuce
- until the chickens devoured it all. Construction on the
Headquarters Cabin progressed despite the pleasant distractions of
enjoying the company of our Guests. We had some terrific pack
trips this summer, and hope to share some of the photos with you soon!
Spring 2003 at Lost Trail Ranch

This
Spring is finally bringing us the well needed moisture that these
mountains need. Already in the month of May, we have had three
snow storms and two nice rains. The grass is turning green, and
the aspen trees and willows are just starting to bud.
All of us are
busy setting up the cabins for the summer season, continuing on
construction for our new headquarters (where we'll be moving into by
mid-June), and doing all we can to maintain and improve this beautiful
and historic Ranch. We've been completing some big projects, like
putting underground all the electric wiring for the Ranch, so there will
be no more over head lines to spoil our views.
Winter 2002-2003 at Lost Trail Ranch

This year, we spent our
first winter living here at Lost Trail Ranch full-time. What a
wonderful winter it was, and what a wonderful home it has proven to be.
Bob spent a great deal of time doing interior upgrades on almost all of
the cabins. Gin continued to home school Forrest, and of course,
bake for all the lucky Guests who joined us here for a vacation this
winter. Forrest learned to (and loved to!) ride a snow
mobile - all the way to Bear Town!
Snow shoeing, cross country skiing,
even hiking our groomed trails were all part of almost every day for
both us and our Guests. The cabins all proved to be toasty warm
and really comfortable during the coldest and snowiest of weather.
Those big southern windows heated up the cabins so well during the sunny
days, and gave us incredible views of the snow and clouds blowing across
the Reservoir on the stormy days.
We look forward to sharing stories
of the winter with you, and even better, hope many of you will join us
here next winter to partake in this incredible winter wonderland!
