Directions to Lost Trail Ranch

We are located southwest of Creede, CO, about a 6 hour drive from either Denver, CO or Albuquerque, NM.  To find us on a Colorado road map, just look for the start of the Rio Grande at the Continental Divide (about 14 miles beyond the Ranch), beyond the Rio Grande Reservoir (located just two miles below the Ranch). 

To access us by car, take Hwy. 149 west from Creede, or south from Lake City, to the Rio Grande Reservoir Road ( also known as Forest Service Road 520).  Proceed south and west on FS Rd 520 for approximately 18 miles to reach Lost Trail Ranch.  Our high country hideaway is nestled just below 13,800 Pole Mountain.

Please keep in mind, that the drive from Creede, CO to Lost Trail Ranch is nearly one hour, and the drive on FS Rd 520 takes about a half hour.  The Rio Grande Reservoir Road/FS RD 520 is well marked with directions to Lost Trail Ranch.  This road is not paved, however is in good driving condition for most of the year.  During heavy snows of winter, driving access may be limited to 4WD vehicles up to the Rio Grande Reservoir Dam, located about 7 miles from the Ranch.  Snowmobile service may be arranged to reach Lost Trail Ranch during that time.

Summer driving conditions:  Paved highway up until the FS520 road turn off.  From there, the road is a well maintained dirt road.  4WD is not needed on the road to the Ranch. 

Winter driving conditions:  Highway roads are plowed regularly by the county.  On FS520 road, the road is maintained for 4WD up to the Rio Grande Reservoir Dam only.   The last 7 miles to our Ranch are snowmachine, ski or snowshoe only.  Arrangements may be made for a snowmachine shuttle service for our Guests and/or their gear.
