For an unforgettable adventure in the wilderness of Southwestern Colorado, Trail Skills provides Guests with the incredible opportunity of Drop Camps, packing guests and their gear into the Weminuche Wilderness and Rio Grande National Forest by horseback to your choice of remote mountain base camp.

Having your gear packed in by our Guides and horses enables you to get in farther, and/or stay out longer.  Imagine the possibilities!  Drop camps enable you to hike to a camping paradise, free from the burden of your weeks worth of supplies!  Or Drop camps can enable you to combine many interests on your upcoming camping excursion:  a day horseback ride far into the Weminuche Wilderness, where you and your gear are left at a breathtaking, remote back country camp... Open up a whole new world for yourself, your companion, your family, your group...

About Our Drop Camp Trips  

Trail Skills, Inc. is our family owned and operating  outfitting services here at Lost Trail Ranch.  Our outfitting services specialized in providing  Drop Camps into the Weminuche Wilderness and the Rio Grande National Forest.  Our Drop Camp Service provides our Guests with the opportunity  to get and stay further into the wilderness than backpacking might take you - or allow our Guests a camping experience without having to hike in nor pack in their own supplies.  We pack it in for you on horseback.  Arrangements may be made to ride into Camp, as well as have all gear packed in (and out)  by horse. 

Fees

Drop Camp Trips are arranged according to the wants and needs of our Guests.  Our Drop Camp Season is from mid June through mid September.  Pricing averages $150 per  horse.  Plan on the need for one horse for the gear of every one person for extended trips, or one horse for gear of two people for a shorter stay.  At least one guide (and thus one horse) will be necessary on all trips, but a second guide may be needed at our discretion.  Prices will vary according to the services provided for the Guests, with a minimum price of $500 per trip.  Please Contact Us for more information, or with any questions you may have regarding planning your upcoming Drop Camp Trip with Trail Skills, Inc.

 HIKING BACKPACK-FREE ADVENTURES  The best of both worlds:  Combining a drop camp with full service backpacking!  Our guides/family will pack your gear along the trail on horseback, arrive in camp, set up camp and kitchen, and provide your crew with an amazing camp meal.  Traveling from camp to camp, seeing new wonders each day, enjoying the adventures of the high mountains - without being weighed down by your back pack!  Hikers keep a day pack with them during day travels, our horses carry the rest.  What a way to experience the mountains!
